12 Named to D2CCA All-Region Softball Team; Brooks Named Regional Player of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (theSAC.com) -- The South Atlantic Conference led the way with 12 D2CCA Softball All-Southeast Region selections and Wingate's Savanna Brooks was named the Regional Player of the Year.
Brooks, a junior, was the SAC Player of the Year and hit .357 with 15 doubles, 18 home runs and 59 RBI. She finished the regular season in the top three in the SAC in HR, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage. She helped the Bulldogs claim the SAC regular season title and earn the top seed in the NCAA DII Southeast Regional for the first time in program history.
Over the 12 all-region selections, four were first teamers. The Peach Belt had eight total all-region selections while Conference Carolinas had seven. Wingate's five honorees were tied with North Georgia for the most by a school.
Carson-Newman, Anderson and Tusculum each had two representatives while Lenoir-Rhyne had one.
