Wingate’s Tanetra Barrett Heads Daktronics Women’s Basketball South Atlantic All-Region Team
Mars Hill?s Abby DeBusk, Newberry?s Tonique Frasier named to second team
AIKEN, S.C.--With regular season play and conference tournaments completed, the 2006-07 Daktronics Division II Women's Basketball South Atlantic All-Region teams have been released. Seven of the 10 players selected will be competing in this week's NCAA Division II Tournament. Each of the three conferences in the region are well represented. The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) had four selections while the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) each had three.
Tanetra Barrett of Wingate University has been selected as the 2006-07 South Atlantic Region Player of the Year. Joining Barrett on the First-Team are: Marquita Driskell (GCSU), Tiara Good (Lander), Cassie King (North Carolina Central), and Celeste Trahan (Elizabeth City State).

The Second-Team members are: Abby DeBusk (Mars Hill), Tonique Frasier (Newberry), Kaneetha Gordon (Armstrong Atlantic State), Stephanie Ponds (Lander), and Deanna Price (Elizabeth City State).
Barrett, a 5-6 senior guard from Marshville, N.C., has been selected as the South Atlantic Region Player of the Year for the second-straight season. She led the South Atlantic Conference in scoring for the second consecutive year at 19.2 ppg. In leading Wingate to a 23-6 overall mark and the program's second-straight SAC regular season championship, the Daktronics First-Team All-American in 2006 will be competing in this week's NCAA Tournament.
Driskell, a 6-2 junior forward from Milledgeville, Ga., finished second in the PBC in scoring at 18.6 ppg and second in rebounding at 11.0 ppg. Named to the All-Conference and PBC All-Tournament teams, Driskell helped the Lady Bobcats to a 20-9 record and a third-place finish in the PBC standings at 10-6. Driskell will also lead her team into this week's NCAA Tournament as GCSU will be the number six seed.
Good, a 5-9 junior guard from Jonesville, S.C., led the Lander Lady Bearcats to a 15-13 regular season record, finishing third in the North Division at 9-7. Selected as the 2007 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, Good led the league in scoring at 21.9 ppg while pulling down 7.2 rpg and dishing out 6.3 apg. Good scored at least 20 points 15 times during the season.
King, a 6-0 senior forward from Wendell, N.C., led North Carolina Central to their first CIAA regular season championship in 23 years and the program's second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance with a 25-5 record. Named to the All-CIAA team for the third-straight season, King finished second in the league in scoring at 16.5 ppg to go with 8.0 rpg and 2.1 blocks per game. Honored as the CIAA Tournament Most Valuable Player, King, an All-America Honorable Mention in 2006, is the only player in CIAA history with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Trahan, a 6-2 junior from Stockton, Calif., was named Daktronics All-America Third-Team in 2006. The 2007 CIAA Player of the Year has led Elizabeth City State to a 21-9 record and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance this year. Trahan leads the CIAA in scoring (20.3 ppg), rebounding (12.7), and blocks (2.4).
First-Team selections will now go on the national ballot for All-America consideration.
