Carson-Newman’s Mandy Mendenhall Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman College's Mandy Mendenhall has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by league officials today.
Mendenhall, a sophomore guard from Kingston Spring, Tenn., led the Lady Eagles to a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins over Wingate and No. 5 Tusculum.
On the week, Mendenhall averaged 20 points per game and shot
60.9 percent from the floor, knocking down 14-of-23 shot attempts,
including a 10-of-15 effort in the road win over Wingate.
In Wednesday's 95-93 win over Wingate, Mendenhall posted her first career double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. She carried the load as the Lady Eagles rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit behind Mendenhall's 5-of-8 performance from behind the arc.
In Saturday's 90-87 win over No. 5 Tusculum, Mendenhall scored 12 points, all of which came in the second half. She scored six points during C-N's 10-0 run to close the game. She also knocked down the two free throws to ice the game with 4.9 seconds remaining. She was 7-of-7 at the line during the week.
Carson-Newman (13-3, 4-1 SAC) will face league-leader Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
