Newberry’s Anita Bulcher Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College's Anita Bulcher has been named the South Atlantic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending February 28, 2010. She wins the award for the third time this season.
Bulcher, a senior forward from Russia, Ohio (Russia HS) continued to display her dominance in a pair of wins over Brevard and Lincoln Memorial. Bulcher recorded her 18th and 19th double-doubles of the season and her ninth consecutively. Bulcher's 19 double-doubles on the season tie her for fifth place in Division II history.
Against Brevard, Bulcher led all players in both points and rebounds with 19 and 15, respectively. Bulcher went 7-11 (.636) from the floor and 5-8 (.625) from the free-throw line. She recorded a block as well.
Bulcher led Newberry yet again against Lincoln Memorial with 26
points as well as 10 rebounds. Bulcher exploded for 18 points in
the second half to distance her team from the competition down the
stretch. Bulcher was 8-13 (.615 ) from the floor and 10-12 (.833 )
from the free-throw line.
On the week, she averaged 22.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in going 15-24 (.625) from the field and 15-20 (.750) from the free-throw line. She also had a block and an assist.
She was also named a first team Academic All-American on Tuesday of last week. Bulcher goes down in history as only the sixth CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American in the history of Newberry College.
