SAC Lands Five on Daktronics Women’s Basketball All-Region Team
DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Five players from the SAC have been selected to the Daktronics Division II Women's Basketball All-Southeast Region Team, including first-team selection Dayshalee Salaman from Lincoln Memorial, it was announced on Wednesday.
Salaman is joined by second-team selections Dana Hicks from Catawba, Cameron Sealey from Lenoir-Rhyne, Zoriah Williams from Carson-Newman and Haylee Lepaio from Newberry. The SAC accounted for four of the five spots on the All-Region Second Team.
Salaman was the SAC's top scorer this season, averaging 20.6 points per game en route to earning All-Conference First Team honors. Salaman also led the league in assists at 4.48 per game and had the second-highest three-point percentage at 37.7-percent.
Hicks, the 2011-12 SAC Player of the Year, led Catawba to a runner-up finish in the conference's regular season standings and an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament. She led the league in rebounding average at 11.9 per game and field goal percentage at 60-percent, while finishing 10th in scoring average.
Sealy, a three-time All-SAC selection, finished fourth in the SAC in scoring, while Williams was the conference's fifth-leading scorer and rebounder.
Lepaio, the SAC Freshman of the Year, was the only first-year player to earn All-Region honors. The forward finished second in the conference in rebounding and third in scoring.
North Georgia's Jaymee Carnes was named the region's Player of the Year.
