South Atlantic Conference Associate Commissioner Eliane Kebbe Named Chair of NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – South Atlantic Conference Associate Commissioner Eliane Kebbe has been named the chair of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee. Kebbe began her duties on January 25, 2017.
Kebbe will oversee the committee that selects teams for NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship participation. In addition, the committee will also determine host institutions of championship sites, provide oversight during championship competition and arrange officials for championship competition. The committee is also responsible for revising and updating championship manuals and determining regional alignment and allocation for bids for championships.
"I am honored to be named the chair of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee," said Kebbe. "It is a privilege to work with such a great group of people on the committee who are committed to serve the sport of women's basketball and to ensure a great experience for all our student-athletes. I look forward to an exciting year DII women's basketball.
"In recent years, the South Atlantic Conference has had several individuals be the chair of various NCAA national committees," said South Atlantic Conference Commissioner Patrick Britz. "Being active on national committees is part of our strategic plan and I am proud of our league representatives for their time and effort on these important committees."
In addition to Kebbe, recently an individual from the SAC has chaired the Division II Softball Committee (Vickee Hollifield, Carson-Newman), the Division II Tennis Committee (Craig Turnbull, Catawba), the Division II Baseball Committee (Doug Jones, Tusculum), the Division II Women's Volleyball Committee (Michelle Caddigan, Wingate), the Division II Men's Soccer Committee (Gary Hamill, Wingate) and in 2017-18, Commissioner Patrick Britz will serve as president for the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association.
Kebbe has more than 20 years in athletic administration. As the South Atlantic Conference Associate Commissioner for Championships and Compliance, she is primarily responsible for overseeing the coordination of the conference's compliance services, sport services and championships.
In addition, Kebbe serves as the SAC's Senior Women's Administrator and works with the league's SWA Committee and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Prior to joining the South Atlantic Conference, Kebbe served as Director of Athletics at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., from 1997 to 2007, where she was responsible for overseeing planning and budgets for 16 varsity teams, athletic training, compliance and sports information. Under her guidance, Belmont Abbey won two Joby Hawn Cups, the trophy presented to the best all-around athletic program in the Conference Carolinas, and increased sports sponsorship from 12 to 16 varsity sports. Kebbe was given the Administrator of the Year Award in 2005.
In 2002, Kebbe - the winningest basketball coach in Belmont Abbey history - was inducted into the Belmont Sports Hall of Fame.
Kebbe received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College in Flushing, N.Y., and a Masters of Education from the University of Georgia.
