Anderson Women's Basketball Moves Up to No. 22 in D2SIDA National Poll, Five SAC Teams Earn Regional Rankings from D2SIDA
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's women's basketball team gained a spot in the latest D2SIDA national rankings, tabbed at No. 22.
The Trojans (10-2, 4-0 SAC) are on an eight-game winning streak, including two during the week to climb up in the national standings. Anderson leads Division II with 48.25 rebounds per game. The Trojans are also third nationally in defensive rebounds per game with 33 and fourth with 579 total rebounds.
Individually across Division II, junior guard Alexy Mollenhauer ranks fifth in defensive rebounds per game (9), eighth in double-doubles (7), eighth in total rebounds (139), and 11th in rebounds per game (11.6), a conference-leading figure.
In the D2SIDA southeast regional rankings, five SAC teams earned mentions. Anderson, Newberry, Carson-Newman, and Wingate collected the second through fifth slots, while Tusculum stayed at No. 9.
The Trojans (10-2, 4-0 SAC) are No. 2 team in the region and No. 22 in the nation. On the week, Anderson topped SAC foe Lincoln Memorial 68-55 and Auburn Montgomery by 21 points (73-52).
The Wolves (9-1, 3-0 SAC) are third in the region. Clutch free throws sealed Newberry's 67-66 victory at North Greenville in the team's lone contest.
The Eagles (10-3, 3-2 SAC) rose to No. 4 in the southeast. Carson-Newman won each contest by over 30 points. At conference opponent Mars Hill, the Eagles won 86-53 and at Shorter, the final score was 83-37 in favor of Carson-Newman.
The Bulldogs (8-3, 3-1 SAC) have been tabbed No. 5 in the region. Wingate downed SAC foe Catawba 83-63 and traveled to UNC Pembroke to defeat the host 70-51.
The Pioneers (6-2, 1-2 SAC) maintained their No. 9 spot with a close win at North Greenville, 68-64.
