Anderson and Wingate Women's Basketball Ranked Nationally, Regional Rankings Released by D2SIDA
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's women's basketball team continues their prominence in the latest D2SIDA national rankings, earning the No. 13 slot, while tabbed No. 21 by WBCA. Wingate rejoined the D2SIDA poll at No. 22.
The Trojans (17-2, 11-0 SAC) are on a 15-game winning streak, including 65-point and 30-point victories during the week to remain in the national standings. Anderson is second nationally in Division II defensive rebounds per game with 33. The Trojans are also third in rebounds per game with 46.74, fifth with 888 total rebounds, fifth in rebound margin (+11.7), ninth in field-goal percentage defense (34.5%), and 10th in three-point field-goal percentage at 38.6 percent.
Individually across Division II, junior guard Alexy Mollenhauer ranks tied third in double-doubles (13), while also ranking fourth in defensive rebounds per game (9.0), sixth in total rebounds with 224, and 10th in rebounds per game (11.8).
The Bulldogs (14-4, 9-2 SAC) are on a six-game winning streak, and have won eight of their last 10 games. Nationally, Wingate is tied for the Division II lead in rebounding margin at +12.7.
Individually, Caroline Averette ranks seventh in the division in free-throw percentage, shooting 90.0 percent from the line.
In the D2SIDA southeast regional rankings, five spots belonged to SAC teams. Anderson hangs on to the No. 1 spot and Wingate moves up to No. 2. Carson-Newman drops to No. 5, while Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial are placed sixth and ninth, respectively.
The Trojans (17-2, 11-0 SAC) are the No. 1 team in the region for the fourth week and No. 13/21 in the nation, collecting all six first-place votes. On the week, Anderson routed both Mars Hill and Queens. The Trojans defeated the Lions 121-56 and the Royals 89-59. Ace Easter and Alexy Mollenhauer earned SAC AstroTurf Co-Players of the Week for their efforts in the two contests.
The Bulldogs (14-4, 9-2 SAC) rise to second in the region and No. 22 in the nation, with victories over Queens and nationally-ranked Carson-Newman on a buzzer-beater. Wingate has won six consecutive games.
The Eagles (14-5, 7-4 SAC) fall to No. 5 in the southeast. Carson-Newman fell in their lone contest to regionally-ranked Wingate on a last-second shot.
The Pioneers (13-5, 6-5 SAC) hold steady at No. 6 in the southeast after going 2-1 on the week. Tusculum downed Newberry and Catawba (in overtime), while dropping a tight game at regionally-ranked Lincoln Memorial.
The Railsplitters (12-6, 8-3 SAC) join the regional ranks at No. 9, having won their last six games. Lincoln Memorial won over regionally-ranked Tusculum and at Coker.
