Anderson Women's Basketball Ranked Nationally, Regional Rankings Released by D2SIDA
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's women's basketball team continues their prominence in the latest D2SIDA national rankings, earning the No. 13 slot, while tabbed No. 20 by WBCA.
The Trojans (19-2, 13-0 SAC) are on a 17-game winning streak, fighting for two SAC victories during the week to remain in the national standings. Anderson is third nationally in Division II defensive rebounds per game with 32. The Trojans are also sixth in rebounds per game with 46.00, sixth in rebound margin (+11.1), seventh in field-goal percentage defense (34.4%), and eighth with 966 total rebounds.
Individually across Division II, junior guard Alexy Mollenhauer ranks fourth in defensive rebounds per game (9.0), while also ranking fifth in double-doubles (14) and eighth in total rebounds with 241.
In the D2SIDA southeast regional rankings, five spots belonged to SAC teams. Anderson hangs on to the No. 1 spot and Wingate drops to No. 3. Carson-Newman moves up to No. 4, while Tusculum and Newberry are placed tied seventh and 10th, respectively.
The Trojans (19-2, 13-0 SAC) are the No. 1 team in the region for the fifth week and No. 13/20 in the nation, collecting all five first-place votes. On the week, Anderson earned wins over Tusculum and then nationally-ranked Wingate. The Trojans defeated the Pioneers 55-46 and the Bulldogs 76-67, to extend their winning streak to 17 games.
The Bulldogs (15-5, 10-3 SAC) fall to third in the region with a route of Coker and a loss to nationally-ranked Anderson.
The Eagles (16-5, 9-4 SAC) rise to No. 4 in the southeast. Carson-Newman won both tightly-contested battles against Lincoln Memorial (81-71) and Lenoir-Rhyne (89-81).
The Pioneers (13-5, 6-5 SAC) drop into a tie for No. 7 in the southeast after splitting the week. Tusculum fell to nationally-ranked Anderson and bounced back with a win over regionally-ranked Newberry.
The Wolves (13-7, 7-6 SAC) rejoin the regional poll at No. 10 after a brief hiatus. Newberry went 1-1 during the week, defeating Catawba and losing to regionally-ranked Tusculum.
