Anderson Wins 2022 SAC Women's Golf Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Anderson Trojans captured the 2022 SAC Women's Golf Championship on Tuesday (April 5) at the Hartsville Country Club in Hartsville, S.C. The Trojans fired a final round score of 296 (+8) and finished with a three-round total of 886 (+22) defeating second place Wingate (895, +31) by nine strokes.
Wingate set a new single round record at the SAC Championship on Tuesday with a score of 293 (+5) to secure their runner-up finish.
Carson-Newman jumped to third place after a nine-over-par 297 in the final round, finishing the tournament with a total of 909 (+45), edging out Limestone by one stroke (+46, 910) is in fourth. Lincoln Memorial (+58, 922) finished in fifth and Queens (+61, 925) finished in sixth. Tusculum (+81, 945) took seventh and Lenoir-Rhyne (+91, 955) finished in eighth, followed by Catawba in ninth at 973 (+109) and Coker in tenth at 975 (+111). Rounding out the field were Newberry (981, +117) in eleventh, Mars Hill (1029, +165) in twelfth, and UVA Wise (1098, +234) in thirteenth.
Anderson's Jessica Rathbone earned medalist honors with a SAC record three-day total of 208 (-8), including a final round of 67 (-5). Lincoln Memorial's Rachel Mathieson took second with a three-round total of 218 (+2), followed by Anderson's Kennedy McGaha in third at 219(+3).
Joining Rathbone, Mathieson, and McGaha on the All-Tournament team were Carson-Newman's Maeve Cummins and Hanna Holland, Wingate's Hailey McLaughlin, Jessica Brown, Mary Ma, and Marie Schrader, and Queens' Charleigh Hodges.
With the win, the Trojans earn an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA South Region Tournament which will take place May 2-4 at the Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Fla.
