South Atlantic Conference 2023 Women's Golf All-Conference Teams Released; Anderson's Rathbone, Gooding, and Moore Take Home Major Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Jessica Rathbone was selected as the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golfer of the Year, while Anderson's Kennedy Gooding was named the Conference's Freshman of the Year and Anderson's head coach Denton Moore was named the Coach of the Year as voted on by the women's golf head coaches, the SAC office announced today.
Rathbone, a junior from Montpelier, Va., is currently ranked No. 27 nationally with an adjusted scoring average of 73.50. She posted six top-15 finishes this season, including taking home medalist honors at Lee University's City with Spirit Classic. Rathbone finished in the top-25 in all eight events this season, posting five rounds below par with a season-low 68 (-4) at the Dallas Baptist Women's Classic. She was named SAC Varsity Gems Women's Golfer of the Week once during the season.
Gooding, a freshman from Lexington, S.C., is currently ranked No. 64 nationally with an adjusted scoring average of 74.53. She had three top-20 finishes, including picking up medalist honors at the Low Tide Intercollegiate where she posted a program record six-under-par 66 in the second round and a 54-hole total of 203, also a program record. She was named SAC Varsity Gems Women's Golfer of the Week once during the season.
Moore earns his first SAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year honor after leading the Trojans to five tournament titles and a No. 5 national ranking. Moore's Trojans won the LeeAnn Noble Memorial, the Saint Leo Invitational, the Findlay Spring Invite, the Low Tide Intercollegiate, and the Lady Bearcat Classic. As a team, they have an adjusted scoring average of 73.61.
Joining Rathbone and Gooding on the All-SAC First Team are fellow Trojans Zoey Iglesias and Kennedy McGaha, along with Wingate's Hailey McLaughlin.
The 2023 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship will run from Sunday, April 2 through Tuesday, April 4, at Cobbs Glen Country Club in Anderson, S.C. Tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. all three days with 18-holes being played each day. Live results for all three rounds can be found online at www.thesac.com.
