The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played during the sixth week of the 2024 season. Wingate swept the weekly awards as Nelida Watson was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Leah Knowles was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Watson, a junior from Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., had two big games to lead No. 16 Wingate to two SAC road wins in three days. She piled up seven goals and six assists on the week, adding a caused turnover and a ground ball as the 'Dogs pushed their SAC winning streak to 21. Watson started her week with four goals and an assist in the 17-6 win at Newberry. She followed with three goals and a career-high five assists for a career-best eight-point performance, adding a caused turnover and a ground ball.
Knowles, a graduate student from Hickory, N.C., piled up seven caused turnovers and 13 draw controls on the week, adding six ground balls to go along with nine goals and an assist. Knowles started her big week with four caused turnovers, five draw controls and four ground balls in the 17-6 win at Newberry. She then notched three more caused turnovers, eight draw controls and a pair of ground balls in the 20-9 win at Tusculum, adding four more goals.
