ROCK HILL, S.C. (theSAC.com) -- Despite trailing 4-1 after the first quarter, the second-seeded Limestone Women's Lacrosse Team rallied to claim the 2025 SAC Championship by a convincing 16-7 margin over top seed Wingate on Saturday at the Sportsplex at Matthews. A dominant defensive effort saw Limestone keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for the entire second half and the final 31:10 of the game.
Deirdre Jones would score the eventual game winner at the 9:59 mark of the third quarter to put the Saints ahead 8-7. Joscelin Martin's goal with 2:32 left in the game ended a 10-0 scoring spurt for the Saints who earned their second straight SAC Tournament title.
Jones and Sophie Shortino led the way for Limestone with four goals each and Martin had three goals and two assists. Emma McCoy made six saves in goal and was eventually named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Limestone clinches the first all-time automatic bid for women's lacrosse in the South Atlantic Conference and will advance to the NCAA Tournament while Wingate will await the bracket release to see if they are in the field.
