Lenoir-Rhyne To Face Belmont Abbey In NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University women's soccer
team (16-2-1) will face Belmont Abbey College (17-1-3) in the
opening round of the 2010 NCAA Division II Tournament. The
fourth-seeded Bears and the fifth-seeded Crusaders will play Friday
at 5 p.m., in Columbus, Ga., in one-half of the Southeast
Regional.
Top-seeded Columbus State University (19-1-1), the host school and
the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Champions, will face the
winner of Lenoir-Rhyne and Belmont Abbey on Sunday at Noon, at the
Walden Soccer Complex.
Lenoir-Rhyne earned an automatic bid to the regionals after winning
the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament
Championship, its first-ever in school history, last Sunday in Rock
Hill, S.C. L-R defeated Wingate by a 3-1 score.
The Bears will be playing in their first-ever NCAA Division II
playoff match as well. L-R also set a school record for wins in a
single season and won the program's first South Atlantic Conference
Regular Season Championship in 2010.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Belmont Abbey played earlier in the year on
October 11 when the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in
Belmont, N.C.
