The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during the first week of the season. Newberry swept the honors with Daphne Heyaime garnering the Offensive Player of the Week award and Jayleen Gant was named Defensive Player of the Week

A junior forward from Santo Domingo, D.R., Heyaime collected a hat trick and added an assist in the opening match versus Francis Marion, winning 6-1. Following up her dominant performance, she scored once and assisted on a goal in the Wolves' 4-0 victory over Mount Olive. On the week, Heyaime has totaled 10 points. This is Heyaime's first Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Gant, a native of Poway, Calif., helped the Wolves to a 2-0 week to open up 2018.  The sophomore goalkeeper finished with nine saves in her two complete matches, with the lone goal coming off of a penalty kick in a 6-1 over Francis Marion. Gant earned her first shutout of the season against Mount Olive. This is Gant's first Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
