Records Broken, Catawba and Wingate Battle for Lead on Day Two of SAC Championships
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The team races tightened considerably on day two of the 2026 SAC Swimming Championships as Catawba continues to lead the women's standings with 862 points, while Wingate sits just behind at 822.5 points.
On the men's side, Wingate remains in front with 883 points, followed by Catawba in second with 720 points. Carson-Newman holds third on both sides heading into the weekend's final two days.
Thursday's finals featured multiple meet records, a host of NCAA B cut performances and several statement swims from returning champions and rising freshmen.
Meet Records Fall Again
Men's 400 Individual Medley
Catawba freshman Jules Remy continued his sensational meet, shattering the SAC meet record in the 400 IM with a winning time of 3:51.79, an NCAA B cut performance. Remy now owns meet records in both the 200 and 400 IM events.
Men's 200 Freestyle
Wingate's Yassine Sebbata followed up his 50 free record from Wednesday with another historic swim, clocking 1:35.12 to break the SAC meet record and earn an NCAA B cut.
Women's 400 Medley Relay
Wingate's A relay of Vera Karlsson, Natalia Dwojak, Mathilda Sandberg and Nina Azirovic closed the night in record fashion, winning in 3:41.84, setting a new meet record and achieving an NCAA B cut.
Event Champions – Day Two
Women's 100 Butterfly
Wingate freshman Mathilda Sandberg claimed gold in 54.65, an NCAA B cut, leading a tightly contested final.
Men's 100 Butterfly
Carson-Newman's Gabriel Morales captured the title in 47.14, posting an NCAA B cut and pacing a strong Eagles sprint group.
Women's 400 IM
Carson-Newman's Megan Corcoran earned her second individual victory of the meet, touching first in 4:26.90 for an NCAA B cut.
Men's 400 IM
Remy's record-setting 3:51.79 headlined the event and added 32 points to Catawba's total.
Women's 200 Freestyle
Catawba senior Danielle Meinema took the crown in 1:49.97, earning an NCAA B cut and leading a dominant Indians performance that saw three swimmers finish in the top three.
Men's 200 Freestyle
Sebbata's meet-record 1:35.12 highlighted the race as Wingate continued to rack up points in the freestyle events.
Women's 400 Medley Relay
Wingate's record-breaking quartet secured 64 points with its 3:41.84 swim to close the women's session.
Men's 400 Medley Relay
Catawba answered in the final event of the night, winning the 400 medley relay in 3:12.98, just off the meet record pace.
