Wingate Wins 2025 SAC Swimming Championship, Major Awards Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wingate Bulldogs men's and women's team finished first in the South Atlantic Conference Swimming Championship Saturday, at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.

Wingate's women's swim team finished with 1,897 points followed by Catawba with 1.782 team points. Carson-Newman collected 1,177 points with Mars Hill (593), Lenoir-Rhyne (581) and Emory & Henry (479 rounding out the final points.

On the men's side, Wingate's 1,757.5 points finished first with Catawba's 1,514.5 clinching second-place. Carson-Newman's 1,345 points gave them third place followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (749), Mars Hill (703), and Emory & Henry (388).

During the final day of competition, Catawba's Fiona Byrne took first in the Women's 1,650 Freestyle event with a 16:59.37 (D2B). Wingate's Liiva Kingsland took second (16:59.37 D2B) with Catawba's Ella Gutenwik (17:12.90 D2B) claiming third.

The Men's 1,650 Freestyle was won by Wingate's Fernando Dehaudt, with a meet record 15:23.45 (D (D2B). Catawba's Nazar Herashchenko (15:23.55 D2B) finished second with Wingate's Miguel Marcos (15:39.56 D2B) claiming third-place.

Catawba's Marit Reckmann took first place in the Women's 100 Freestyle with a meet record 49.96 (D2B). Wingate's Lucie Andrews earned second (50.47 D2B) with Catawba's Eniko Onofer (50.79 D2B) rounding out the podium.

Catawba's Maks Minichowski touched first in the Men's 100 Freestyle with a meet-record 43.17 (D2B). Wingate's Yassine Sebbata (44.50 D2B) and Anton Witzell (43.74 D2B) claimed second and third.

In the Women's 200 Backstroke, Wingate took the three top spots with Marta Beesmans (1:58.97 D2B) finishing first, followed by Vera Karlsson (2:00.83 D2B) and Nicol Bellardi (2:00.94 D2B).

Wingate also claimed the top two spots in the Men's 200 Backstroke as Gabriel Coasts (1:47.06 D2B) touched first followed by Ney Chagas Filho (1:47.16 D2B). Catawba's Alejandro Alvarez (1:49.42) finished third.

Catawba touched first and second in the Women's 200 Breaststroke with Gabi Moll (2:15.37 D2B) touching first followed by Sydney McKenzie (2:15.48 D2B). Wingate's Cornelia Almqvist (2:16.67 D2B) touched third.

Carson-Newman's Asger Hartvig took first place in the Men's 200 Breaststroke with a D2B 2:00.68. Catawba's Ryan Case (2:01.17) touched second and Wingate's Andres Martijena (2:01.23) finished third.

In the final event of the evening, the 400 Freestyle Relay, Wingate's women's team of Lucie Andrews, Elizabete Paula Ozola, Giulianna Garcia, and Valentina Zapata Ceballos took first place (3:25.07 D2B) Carson-Newman's Olivia Kerr Muir, Emma Bowling, Megan Corcoran, and Martina Ivanova touched second (3:26.69) and Catawba's Marieen Plachetka, Sydney Peterson, Danielle Meinema, and Brinkley Watson finished third (3:28.36).

Wingate's Men's 400 Freestyle Relay team of Vladimir Krstulovic, Yassine Sebbata, Mike Topchanalis, and Anton Witzell took first place (2:56.03 D2B). Catawba's Juan Celis, Maks Minichowski, Lassi Niemi, and Ryan Case claimed second (2:58.11) and Carson-Newman's Daniel de Oliveira, Arthur Gluzman, Gabriel Bozzolo, and Tyler Schehr touched third (2:58.93).
