The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2022 Women's Tennis Annual Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Zulay Castaneda was voted the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, while Anderson's Catherine Blouin was voted the Conference's Freshman of the Year. In addition, Queens' head coach Billy Boykin was named the Coach of the Year, the SAC office announced today.
Castaneda, a senior from Panama City, Panama, is one of the top-ranked players in the SAC at No. 15 nationally. She holds an 18-1 record in singles play and finished the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record against conference opponents. Castaneda also helped lead Newberry to a No. 16 national ranking this season.
Blouin, a freshman from Augusta, Ga., posted 14-7 singles and doubles records playing mainly No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and is ranked No. 56 nationally in singles play. With her help, the Trojans are currently ranked No. 43 nationally.
Boykin earns his first SAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Royals to a share of the SAC Regular Season Title and a 13-1 overall record, going 11-1 in league play, this season. Currently, the Royals are ranked No.11 in the ITA National Rankings.
Joining Castaneda and Blouin on the All-SAC first team singles squad are Wingate's Camilla Ciaccia, Queens' Viktorija Veselinova and Jill Morse, and Carson-Newman's Ana Carla Resende.
The All-SAC first team doubles honorees are Morse and Marie Bertran De Balanda from Queens, Ciaccia and Suzuka Sambyajugari from Wingate, and Newberry's Nastassia Chamoun and Lucy Spice.
