Wingate Picked as South Atlantic Conference 2023 Women's Tennis Preseason Favorite and Preseason All-Conference Teams Announced
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate has been voted as the 2023 South Atlantic Conference women's tennis preseason poll favorite, the league office announced today. The League's head coaches gave the Bulldogs 10 first-place votes and a total of 139 points.
Newberry was voted second with 123 points and one first place vote, while Tusculum was picked third with one first-place vote and 115 points. Anderson was voted in at No. 4 with 108 points and the final first place vote, followed by Carson-Newman at No. 5 with 103 points.
Lenoir-Rhyne placed No. 6 with 90 points and Limestone was voted No. 7 with 76 points. Lincoln Memorial took the No. 8 spot with 71 points, while Catawba was voted No. 9 with 56 points. Mars Hill followed with 52 points at No. 10, Coker was No. 11 with 44 points, UVA Wise was picked No. 12 with 20 points, and Emory & Henry was No. 13 with 17 points.
The SAC also announced its preseason all-conference teams. The first team doubles partners were Chloe Kosmrli and Alex Lopez of Wingate, Elena Gunfaus and Saga Berggren from Wingate, and Tabitha Howe and Elodie Bachler from Tusculum.
In singles, Zulay Castaneda and Nastassia Chamoun of Newberry, and Anna Greer of Anderson were named first team, along with Jessica Binzari of Coker. Rounding out the first team selections were Tabitha Howe of Tusculum and Evgeniya Pugina of Lenoir-Rhyne.
