The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for events during this past weekend of the 2019-20 season. Wngate earned the track honors with Franziska Althaus and Queens gathered the field honors with To'Mara Carmichael.
A sophomore distance runner, Althaus shattered a Bulldog record in the 3000-meter race with a time of 10:00.77. She finished second in the event while shaving 22 seconds from the previous record. She currently holds the number one spot in the 3000-meter for the SAC, and holds the number two spot in the 5000-meter. This is Althaus's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season.
A junior thrower, Carmichael took first place in the shot put recording a mark of 12.41-meters. She then went on to record a mark of 15.39-meters in the weight throw, earning second place. This is Carmichael's second Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
