South Atlantic Conference Sweeps USTFCCCA Southeast Region Major Awards
NEW ORLEANS, La. –Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced Friday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with members of the South Atlantic Conference earning all four major awards for women's indoor track & field in the Southeast Region.
Jim Vahrenkamp earns the region Coach of the Year award for the third time in his career during the indoor season after coaching the Royals to the SAC team title by 80 points. Queens has two entries in the NCAA Division II Championships and is rated No. 1 in the Southeast Region. Additionally, Jennifer Koehne from the women's team was named Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year. Koehne is ranked second nationally in the long jump at 6.10m (20-0¼) and 23rd nationally in the high jump at 1.69m (5-6.5). She scored 20 points in field events at the SAC Indoor Championships with victories in the high jump and long jump and led the nation in all-region team nods.
Also earning honors is Queens' Vincent Schneider who was named Southeast Region Women's Assistant Coach of Year. In his second year coaching the jumps, sprints and hurdles at Queens, Schneider had athletes combine for 114.5 of the Royals' 203.5 points that won the SAC team title.
Finally, earning Southeast Region Track Athlete of the Year honors is Tusculum's Nicole McMillen. McMillen, a senior from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, is ranked eighth nationally in the 5000 at 16:46.16c and 13th nationally in the 3000 at 9:39.38. She ended the regular season with the region's top times in the mile, 3000 and 5000.
