Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kate Griewisch To Compete In Penn Relays
Philadelphia, Pa. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Kate Griewisch will run in the prestigious Penn Relays Thursday at Franklin Field. Griewisch, a junior from Banner Elk, N.C., will compete in the women's collegiate 10,000-meter championship. The event takes place at 10:15 p.m.
Griewisch will be running in the relays for the second consecutive year. In 2010, Griewisch finished fourth out of 34 runners with a time of 35:10 at the relay event.
Griewisch ran a school-record 34:39 and placed second out of 33 competitors at the Raleigh Relays earlier this year, a time good enough to qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
The finals take place on May 26-28 in Turlock, Calif., on the campus of California State University Stanislaus.
Griewisch is also a two-time NCAA Division II All-American (2009-10) in women's cross country and was named the 2011 USTFCCCA D-II II Indoor Track & Field Women's Athlete Of The Year for the Southeast Region. USTFCCCA is the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Griewisch finished ninth in both the 5,000-meter run in the
indoor track and field national finals in March and the 10K at the
2010 outdoor track and field national championship in Charlotte,
N.C., last May.
The Penn Relays are the largest annual track and field meet in the United States and the largest annual relay meet in the world. Over the course of three days, 17,000 athletes from all levels will race in front of 115,000 spectators. The best in the world have and continue to compete at the Penn Relays.
