South Atlantic Conference Announces Football Players of the Week, Oct. 10 (WATCH)

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf  SAC Football Players of the Week for games played the sixth week of the season.  Carson-Newman running back Montavious Taylor was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Wingate linebacker Zack Singleton was named the Defensive Player of the Week.  Meanwhile, Wingate punter Chandler Phillips picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Taylor, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., rushed for 130 yards on seven carries in the Eagles' 47-0 win over Brevard on Oct. 8.  He amassed 77 yards in the first quarter and rolled up 52 yards in the second.  He averaged 18.6 yards per carry to post his fifth career 100-yard performance and second this season.  The honor is his first Offensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.

Singleton, a junior from Germantown, N.C., recovered a fumble and came away with one interception to lead the Bulldogs to a 19-0 win over Tusculum on Oct. 8.  He added four tackles and was in on a tackle for loss as he anchored a Bulldog defense that allowed just 63 yards of total offense and four Pioneer first downs. The shutout also marked the first time a team has shutout Tusculum since Oct. 15, 2005, a span of 119 games.  The award is his first Defensive Player of the Week selection this season.

Phillips, a junior from Lutz, Fla., posted 189 yards on six punts, including a career-best 52 yard boot in Hurricane Matthew-influenced conditions against Tusculum.  He put three kicks inside the Tusculum 20 yard line and averaged 31.5 yards per kick.  His punts gave Wingate the advantage in field position by 18 yards.  The honor is his first Special Teams Player of the Week nod this season.
